Consequent to the tsunami that occurred on December 26th, 2004, the Asian Development Bank signed an Agreement with the Government of Sri Lanka to provide financial aid to rebuild tsunami affected areas. The Agreement was signed on April 28th, 2005. The main objective of this funding was to rapidly improve the living conditions and well being of a significant number of people in the tsunami affected areas by restoring social infrastructure, community and public services and livelihoods in these areas. The Agreement made provision for eight areas of intervention (‘A’ to ‘H’).
